Radiation (SSR)

While reminiscing on the past, I've realized that there was various natural disasters that damaged the countries it hit. I've realized though that radiation is a problem that not only happened in 2011, but as well into this year. Have you ever noticed that Radiation is thought to be a problem worldwide and should avoided because of how dangerous it is.

First off before anything we need to know what radiation is and radiation is when energy is emitted by subatomic particles as waves. Radiation can be found in many things such as a microwave, x-rays, or even when you’re talking on the phone. This problem is often used in our daily lives such as power plants and cancer treatment (Chemotherapy). Power plants are used in our lives as a power source but if damaged or destroyed it can emit harmful radiation killing blood cells and sickening people in its radius. Just as it sickens people who are affected by the radiation those who use radiation to better themselves as well gets themselves sick. This applies worldwide because of the fact that globally, countries use power plants to power their country. A few months into the 2011 year Japan got hit with natural disasters destroying their power plant and infecting many of those near the power plant and its soil. As well as it leaked into the Pacific Ocean. If anything I suggest we find a safe alternative for these power plants such as solar energy where the radiation use is less. I suggest this because of the fact that there are other ways that energy can be absorbed or used. More information on the leakage can be found by clicking link.

Family (PB)

Yes, it may seem weird that I have a passion for my family, but hey that's me. My family is what has shaped me to become who I am today. I am thankful for everything that they have done for me, and my siblings even if I didn't realize how much they actually did for us. My mother and father are both from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. They faced issues in schools regarding weapons being brought in classes or the constant stealing as you walk on the street. Their parents in order to protect them had to pay for them to go to a private school where crime is very low, and has protection all around. To me it basically sounded like prison. They didn't want us to live in constant fear or having to pay each month 1000+ pesos per kid.

In Dominican Republic it is hard to obtain well paying jobs. I can tell because when I was on my way to our house, and there would be traffic, there are people in the streets selling water, snacks, or are willing to clean your front window for as little as 50 pesos which isn't much. 50 pesos = $1.18 here in the United States, and that is rounded up. The Dominican Republic economy is in such a bad shape that in order to fill up a tank of gas for a car is a minimum of 3300 pesos which equals to $77.56. My parents planed ahead, and did the hardest thing for them to do. They left Dominican Republic to start a family here in the United States, and I am thankful for that. This is why I am passionate about my family since I only get to see the rest in Dominican Republic for a couple a months every few years.

This chart shows the currency exchange rate, and it has been decreasing ever since 2009. It is clear that Dominican Republic is undergoing inflation, and is something that my parents may have taken into account when leaving Dominican Republic.

Government Debt Ceiling (SSR)

While doing one of my essays for school, I've been looking into the debt ceiling of this country. I've realized that the United States borrows more money than they receive. Similar to the quote "they bite more than they can chew", is basically what the United States is doing. While reading through some articles I saw that the United States Congress made new laws to be able to borrow money more easier. These laws are the First Liberty Loan Act and the Second Liberty Bond Act, both which were made in 1917.

At the start of this whole system, the United States Congress placed the debt ceiling as $43 billion. This is a lot money to us, but what the current debt ceiling is, its outrageous. The current debt ceiling is, as of November 18, 2013 is $16.699 trillion. Yes thats right close to $17 trillion, and the outstanding part is that the debt ceiling increases everyday. It is said that the debt ceiling increases by approximate 200 million dollars and hour. This is more that people make in a lifetime. If you wish to read more of this article, you can press Link and it'll take you to a Q. and A. in the New York Times. This is an old article, but it tells you a lot about it, and gives you an estimate on what the debt ceiling was in 2011. This was $14.3 trillion, and in this link it'll show you what presidents had the debt, and who held the debt.

Being the Problem (ID)

In leadership class with Mr. Davenport we were learning about two great leaders in our past. They were Booker T. Washington, and W.E.B. Dubois. While learning about these leaders, W.E.B. Dubois came up with an interesting question. How does it feel to be a problem. This aroused several questions within the class, and it became a discussion on our own status.

The thought of being a problem, not only to other people, but to the society had me roused up. I've thought long and hard about what W.E.B Dubois said on how it feels to be a problem. The only thing that comes up to mind is my ethnicity. I've realized that the community I live in doesn't have me feel like I am a problem, but when I reach college I might feel it. They might look at me different because I’m not Caucasian, but may look cause of the color of my skin. The only way I can think to make a difference in my life is to stand up for me, and the rest who are being pushed to believe that they are the problem.

Baseball Practice (FC)

There are still months until our season starts up, but everyday we wait we have to practice. Many believe that we live in a fairy tale world where if we go to practice once or twice we're going to get better. This is wrong my friend because that does not show dedication to the sport you are applying your self in. You need to continuously apply yourself in practice, and learn from your mistakes if you are to get better in the future. Sadly this may be the case for many of our teammates. When a select few of us are out there everyday we can to practice, the majority are home, doing nothing.

My teammates need to take this sport as serious as I take my school work. I understand that you may not be able to make it certain days, but at least make the initiative to practice once or twice when we go. While reading this you may believe I'm throwing "subs", but I'm honestly no trying too. I'm only speaking what I feel. If we are planning to take the championship we need to work hard. Thankfully there is a team practice this Friday, and hopefully this motivates everyone else to come when we choose to go another day. In the end we have to enjoy the sport because it is a game, but taking the championship will make everything much more sweeter.

2013 World Series Champs (FC)

Today was game 6 of the World Series. It was Boston Red Sox vs. St. Louis Cardinal. Around the month of September where all the games had more meaning, the Boston Red Sox won the east division. Once I heard the news that they're going to the playoffs I was sure they would take it. Of course I'm a Yankees fan, but the Red Sox's are taking it this year. As a matter of fact, they did. Sure I'm disappointed that my team didn't even make it to the playoff's, but Boston deserved this championship. They seemed dedicated, and played baseball like it was their last game. They even grew out their beards!

I was a bit disappointed that St. Louis Cardinal lost. They worked just as hard as Boston did, but Boston seemed like they had the momentum since the start of the playoffs. They plowed down some of the best pitchers in the American League, and is why I knew they were going to take it this year. Congratulations Boston Red Sox, and the MVP Big Papi.

Good Ol' Sleep (PB)

Sleep is something that we all as human beings spend at least 1/3 of our day doing. Whether I have a good amount of hours taken to sleep or not, I still enjoy sleeping. I find sleeping a relaxing way to get through life, and be the king to your own world. The idea of imagining whatever comes up to mind, and you get to control it, excites me. I can become whatever I want, and have whatever is my desire.

As a child I never enjoyed sleeping. I enjoyed staying up all night, and is why I have these horrible bags under my eyes. I've reconsidered my passion of staying up all night, and began sleeping more. This soon led me to enjoy sleeping. I strongly feel that the amount of hours I slept increased my height, and I can agree with my statement. What helped greatly was last year in 11th grade. As juniors we would be able to enter school at 9:15am and have the chance to have that extra hour of sleep. All in all sleep is a great passion and I deeply enjoy it.

Building A Hovercraft! (ID)

As a student we're all required to take core classes. This year I was placed in a science research class in which the class has to research something on their own preference. It can be from a wide range of ideas like in my case, a hovercraft. We as a group chose this because it is something based on our major which fits beautifully. In the group Angel and Christian are my partners in this project. We have had various research ideas, but it became a thing in the past. We've thought about making a hologram or taking on the Cacao Genome Project. After a bit of research we realize that these topics are difficult, and require materials that we know nothing off, which is why today we have come up the idea of building a hovercraft.

After hearing about this possible idea I felt excited. The main reason is because of the possibilities. It puts a smile in my face because I'm planning on majoring in a form of engineering, and this research topic fits in. Although we currently have no hovercraft is being built, but soon we will make it. Of course there is the basic way to make it, but we are going to make this hovercraft our own. Once made hopefully in a future blog I might post a photo of it, or even do a vlog on it. If any of you are interested on making a hovercraft click on this link and it will give you information on how to do it.

My Life.. (FC)

As my adolescent years goes, I have realized that one thing doesn't go. This thing is what has been holding me back from being who I really am. I am a very shy/timid person when it comes to meeting new people or confronting people. I never understood why. When i look back on my life there are things that if i wasn't shy I would of done them.

My grandfather has been there for me through everything no matter what it is, and I would take his saying any day. I have been told by my grandfather that I'm shy, but never believed him. He told me that I'm a outstanding grandson, and that I obtained this trait from my mom, but being shy is something that is going to hold me back. It has, and I feel taunted by it. When I'm meeting new people I'm usually silent. As well when I'm being interviewed for a job or internship. I feel that the biggest problem for me is that I would feel like an outcast, and wouldn't be accepted for who I am.

Being shy has been a nuisance for a while, and i have tried overcoming it. It is not an easy battle to fight since I always have that feeling of fitting in on the back of my head. This is something that I'm working on, and I believe the first step in anything is accepting what flaw I have. The second is telling people what is holding me back from being who I really am.

Baseball (PB)

Baseball has been apart of my life for a while. Playing with a bunch of friends has been a great way for me to share my love for this sport. It shows great teamwork skills, but it is really a way for us to have fun. Not everything is hard work and no play, and that is something that I had a few problems with. Baseball has shown me that. It thought me that if practice consistently it will soon become second nature. Just how video games are to me. I pick up the remote, and then I get the hang of it.
In my younger years baseball was something that I took more seriously. I used to play with my dad every Sunday, but after an unexpected divorce catching with my dad on Sundays halted, and so did baseball in general. I was traumatized by what happened, and felt that stopping baseball in general was the best choice to ease the pain. After four to five years, I decided to get back, and enjoy the sport I enjoyed the most.
Nowadays on a sunny day, and no plans, we as a team get together and just play until we drop. (Not Literally...). Even though fall and winter are approaching I keep grinding everyday to be able to perform my best when spring comes around the corner. Even if it means I have to go to the gym or have to stay home and perform basic drills. Baseball is a sport in which I am very passionate about, and wish to carry on.
